Beating My Fears - My First Time on Stage

I still remember the first time I played my drums in front of a big crowd. My hands were sweaty, my heart was pounding, and I thought for sure I was going to mess up. I had practiced the songs a million times, but standing behind my drum kit with all those people watching felt completely different. I love drumming more than anything, but at that moment, I wasn’t sure if I could do it. What if I missed a beat? What if I dropped a stick? All these worries filled my head as the lights came on and my band got ready to play.
But then, something amazing happened. As soon as I hit the first drum, all the fear started to fade away. My hands knew exactly what to do, just like they had in all those hours of practice. I could feel the music, and instead of worrying about messing up, I focused on having fun. I looked at my bandmates, and they smiled at me like, "We've got this!" The more I played, the more I forgot about the crowd. It was just me, my drums, and the music—and it felt awesome!
Now, every time I step on stage, I still get a little nervous, but I know that once I start playing, it will all go away. I’ve learned that the best way to beat fear is to just go for it. I remind myself that I love playing, and that’s all that matters. No one is expecting me to be perfect—they just want to have a good time and enjoy the music. And if I do mess up? I just keep going. I’ve realized that mistakes aren’t as big of a deal as they feel in the moment.
Looking back, I’m really glad I didn’t let fear stop me from playing. Being on stage is one of the best feelings in the world, and I never want to let nerves take that away from me. So, if you ever feel scared to do something you love, just take a deep breath and go for it. You might be surprised at how awesome it turns out!
